Dave & Elaine MacKintosh's 1951 Mayflower

This Triumph Mayflower was originally owned by a gentleman in St. Albert’s Alberta. In the late 60’s he developed Hodgkinson’s and knew he would be unable to continue driving. He put the car up on blocks and completely filled everything with oil. About 2010 his grandson tried to get the car running again but had no luck. He eventually sold it into Edmonton. While in Edmonton visiting our daughter for Christmas in 2016, I saw the Mayflower on Kijiji and since it was not far away, when to have a look. A deal was made and I brought it home in January 2017.

It has been plagued with brake problems and now has new cylinders on all wheels, a new master cylinder, and new flexible hoses, but still needs bleeding. An electric fuel pump was installed and it fired up with little trouble but had a vacuum leak and would not run without choking. Several carb rebuilds and manifold gaskets and that seems to have cleared up but has developed significant blowby. Plans are to replace the vacuum metering valve system with a pcv valve as per Bob’s suggestion.

Given the 5.11 rear gears the car will be trailed to any shows. Hopefully, brakes or not, it can appear at Brits and the Bess.
